Combo Classes (ages 3-6)

These classes are an introduction to dance, music, taking direction and interacting with other children. Classes are 45 minutes long and activities are changed often to keep the students attention and excitement level constant. Circle time is devoted to stretching and learning how to isolate each body part to understand how they move. Ballet, tap, gymnastics, creative movement and story time is all incorporated into the class.

Lower School (Pre-Ballet, Ballet I, Ballet II, Ballet III and Ballet IV)

Students must be 6 years old to enter Pre Ballet class. Students will learn the beginning of a structured ballet class. Barre work begins, usually lasting 30 minutes, followed by stretching and then center work and across the floor. Correct ballet terminology is introduced and used at all times so the student begins to learn this new language. These classes are still light hearted and may use creative movement to keep learning fun. All classes at this level meet once a week for one hour. Ballet III and IV students are required to take 2 one hour classes a week. The material learned is more challenging and more steps are joined together in order to teach the students how to move freely and with more grace. At this level other disciplines of dance are offered to the students in order to make them more well rounded.

Middle School- (Pre-Pointe, Pointe I, Pointe II)

Students entering into the middle school are now required to take class twice a week (pre-pointe level) and three times a week (pointe I and II). Classes are now an hour and a half long. Pre Pointe classes are a preparation class getting the student ready for pointe work. Proper alignment of the body is imperative and is the focus of these classes. At this level classes become a bit more challenging while the students are tasked with barre work, center work, and across the floor. Pointe work is done the last 20 minutes of class. Once a student reaches Pointe 1 professional pointe shoes are worn and real pointe work begins. At this level students are also learning more intricate steps including multiple pirouettes, jumps with beats, reversal of combinations, and longer more fluid phrase work across the floor to make sure they are prepared for the next level.

Upper School- (Pointe III and Advanced Pointe)

At this level students will be challenged wsith advanced pre professional level classes. Four two hour classes a week are required. Pointe work is now an essential aspect of the class. Some classes will be done entirely on pointe at this level. Students in this level may be asked to dance in American Dance Theatre of Long Island’s (ADTLI) company which performs “The Nutcracker” and our “Summer Celebration of Dance.” Many students from this level have been chosen to dance at prestigious summer intensives including School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, NYYSA, Boston Ballet, Richmond Ballet and Austin Ballet.

Other disciplines we offer are listed below

Modern (Levels I-IV)

We offer modern classes to dancers in the Lower, Middle, and Upper levels of our school. Students will learn how to move their body in a more freeing way while incorporating floor work and other steps not typically done in ballet. Modern dance consists of a wide range of movement and technique. Our teachers incorporate many different styles into their classes including Lester Horton technique, Martha Graham technique and more.

Lyrical/Contemporary

These classes are offered to our dancers in the lower, middle and upper levels of our school. Lyrical/Contemporary is important for our dancers to explore their expressiveness and creativity. They will learn movement that will challenge them as it incorporates more unpredictable rhythm, speed, and direction. Floor work will also be further explored as well as other turns and jumps not practiced in their ballet classes.

Pilates/Stretch and Strengthening

Students in our Lower, Middle, and Upper level classes are required to take a Pilates/Stretch and Strengthening class once a week. Dancers cannot get all they need out of their technique classes. Cross training is incredibly important and is something professional dancers rely upon. Strengthening the core and other muscles is imperative for improving jumps, turns and a dancers form overall. Stretching will improve a students flexibility and extensions which are crucial for a dancer.

Musical Theatre/Tap

These classes are offered to our students in the Lower and Middle levels of our school. Musical Theatre explores Broadway style movement and our tap classes help students practice rhythm and is a fun way to practice coordination and musicality.

Dance History/Student Choreography

This class is offered to our Upper level students only. Students who chose to take this class learn about the most prominent choreographers in dance history. As they watch famous pieces of choreography as well as interviews with the choreographers they begin to explore their own work. Students will learn phrasing, motifs, patterns, and many different skills in order to create their own movement vocabulary. The students have the opportunity to submit a piece of their own into the Long Island Dance Consortium. The class culminates with a Student Choreography Showcase where each student is responsible for creating, rehearsing and staging their own work.

Adult Ballet

We offer both Beginner and Intermediate levels of adult ballet. No experience is required for our Beginner class. Our intermediate level requires some experience in ballet training as more complicated movement is used as well as pointe work if desired.

Private Lessons

We offer private lessons in all disciplines of dance. Private lessons are a one on one class where the teacher is able to focus solely on the individual and their specific needs. We recommend private lessons for any dancer looking to pursue dance seriously. Contact for pricing.
